The Khastgari Guide

Most apps leave you the moment you match. YakDil walks with you further, into the khastgari, the family introduction that turns two people into two families. This guide gathers what elders, scholars, and happily married couples consistently advise. Adapt it to your family’s customs; nothing here replaces your own scholars’ guidance.

Before anything: the du‘a

Begin with Salat al-Istikhara and ask Allah for clarity. Not for a “sign,” but for ease toward what is good and distance from what is not. Involve Allah first, then your family, then your heart.

Step 1: Prepare yourselves before the meeting

Step 2: Questions worth asking, and being asked

Deen & character:

Life & expectations:

Family & temperament:

Step 3: The mahr conversation, with dignity

The mahr is her right, given with respect. It is not a price, and it is not a negotiation to be won. The Prophet ﷺ encouraged ease in mahr; the best marriages are the easiest ones. Let the sister (with her family) state what she considers meaningful, let the brother’s side respond honestly about capacity, and settle it in one calm conversation, written down, witnessed, and never used as pressure in either direction.

Step 4: After the meeting

Red flags to honour, even late in the process

May Allah place barakah in your search and your home. For platform safety guidance, see the Safety Center.
